Geological Society of Norfolk
|
The GSN is a local scientific society,
financed by the subscriptions of its
members and sales of its Bulletin,
devoted to keeping the public informed
about all aspects of the Geology of
Norfolk and East Anglia, and relevant
and interesting aspects of Earth
Science. It currently does this by means
of a winter lecture programme, field
trips, providing a specialised
peer-reviewed Journal (the Bulletin),
and a Newsletter. |

Norfolk Geodiversity Partnership
The NGP is promoting geoconservation in Norfolk. Our main work so far has been to
ensure that geodiversity becomes
recognised within the planning process,
and we have responded to over 30 Local
Development Framework planning
consultations. We have also completed a
database of Norfolk's most significant
geological and geomorphological sites
gathered from published literature. We
have a draft Geodiversity Action Plan,
and have embarked on a series of
geodiversity presentations to Norfolk's
local authorities.
In 2010 we published 'Norfolk's Earth Heritage - valuing our geodiversity'
- see below. |

Norfolk's Earth Heritage
valuing our geodiversity
 |
|
This is a landmark publication on the county's Earth heritage and the need to conserve it.
• Provides a concise yet readable
introduction to Norfolk's geodiversity
and why it is an important resource
for life today
• Explains the business of
geoconservation, and promotes a
Geodiversity Action Plan for the
county, calling for a partnership of like-
minded organisations and individuals to
take it forward.
•
Includes a range of useful resources,
including advice for planners.
We hope 'Norfolk's Earth Heritage' will provide a source of information and inspiration for years to come.
